Screens
In all forms, physical and interior.
These photos depict a certain state of mind, an ambivalence. When we hide and watch. When we want to go but want to stay. When we feel like a stone and feel like a bird too. When we daydream for too long. I am aware this is how I often photograph scenes, and I came to understand this: it is that certain way of looking when I carry women’s memory,
Screens are also very interesting aesthetically. Looking at a photograph taken through a window-screen, for exemple the ones I took in the US, reminds me of old French embroidery hangings and pillows, bringing out the essential shapes and colours. Since embroidery is one of the oldest art form women were allowed and encouraged to practice, I find it even more relevant to this work.
